Do's and Dont's of Gemstone Photography!

Here are some of the Do's and Dont's in Gemstone Photography for you to always remember. Whether you are a collector, a Jewellery Designer, a Gemstone reseller, a wholesale supplier of Gemstones, Investor, here is a short page of the basic tips on Gemstone Photography.

NEVER have the background to be with lines or inperfections. It looses the focus on the gemstones.

Always make sure that the facets dont come out blur, always well focused. Zoom out if not nice.

Adding Flash is like doing Moon photography with a flash. You are only going to show things that are not visible by the naked eye. The fingerprints on gems etc.

Never have any other object besides the Gemstone (Subject)

When doing photography of Gems which have good reflection, most cabochons, dont use lights.

Naturally clicked and Natural light under the sun shows the "flash" in these stones. Such as Moonstones.

Do this type of photo towards the sun only when you want to show inclusions, not in general. The gemstone in subject should be kept in the same direction as the suns rays, now as in this picture.

Never take pictures of Cabochons opposite and Cut stone Amethyst reverse. take photos of gems as if they are about to be set into Jewellery, the same way. It enhances their looks and gives a real feel about the Jewellery they are going to be made into or bought by the person.
